How to Treat the FUPA: The Body Contouring Zone No One Talks About (But Everyone Wants Help With)

Updated: May 7

Let’s be real — most of your clients won’t walk in and say, “Can you treat my FUPA?”

But they’ll definitely say, “I just want to lose this lower belly bit!”

You know the spot — that soft, stubborn pocket of fat that sits just above the pubic bone and never seems to budge. It’s one of the most searched body concerns in 2025… and guess what? Hardly any salons are talking about it.

So if you’re a salon owner offering body contouring, this is your chance to stand out and get results that other businesses are missing.

Whether you’re working from home, running a busy commercial space, or just getting started in the beauty industry — treating the FUPA safely and confidently is next-level professionalism. It’s also next-level marketing. Because once you master this zone, your clients will not stop raving about you.

But how do you treat it? What machines are safe to use? And when should you avoid it altogether?

Let’s break it down — fun, creative, and facts-first.

The FUPA (aka the Fat Upper Pubic Area) is often fluidy, puffy, or thick — and usually hormonal, post-baby, or post-weight loss. Some clients have loose skin here; others have a compact little bulge that just won't shift.

As a salon owner, your first step is knowing the difference between soft fat and red-flag tissue. If there’s scar tissue from a C-section, hernias, or the area feels “heavy,” always refer to a doctor first.

But if it's just soft, stubborn fat — it’s go time.

Fat Cavitation can be a good option here — but only if the tissue is not fibrotic, not inflamed, and there's no hernia. Use a low intensity, go slow, and avoid getting too close to the pubic bone. And yes, always check for sensitivity. This is not an area where we blast and hope for the best.

Radio Frequency Skin Tightening is one of your best friends. Clients LOVE it. It gently tightens the skin, especially post-pregnancy, and helps lift and firm the FUPA when paired with the right technique. Glide the handle continuously, keep the heat moderate, and never hold static. Easy, safe, effective.

Vacuum RF or Lymphatic Drainage is a must if the area is swollen or fluidy. Start here. Use gentle vacuum suction and

always drain toward the groin lymph nodes (inguinal nodes) when treating the thighs, knees, or FUPA.

One leg at a time. Don’t rush. This sets you up for success when you go in with cav or RF after.

Want to level up? Use Laser Lipolysis pads before you begin. They're non-invasive, pain-free, and prep the tissue beautifully. They help soften the area so your vacuum and fat cav get better results with less risk.

Now let’s talk about your money-maker…

Fat Freezing.

  1. This is the treatment for FUPA. Small applicator, short treatment time, incredible results. Just make sure:

  2. There’s no scar tissue or hernia

  3. The area is pinchable

  4. You stay slightly above the bone And then — freeze it. Let your technology do the work while your client relaxes.

Your client will start seeing changes from week 4 onwards, with peak results at 8 to 12 weeks. This treatment sells itself. And the before-and-afters? Pure gold for your socials.

Here’s your salon owner checklist:

  • Are you offering fat freezing on the FUPA? If not, why not?

  • Do you have the right-sized cup applicator for the area?

  • Are you confidently marketing this zone — or avoiding it because no one talks about it?

Talking about this area positions you as an expert. It shows you know how to treat what others ignore. And that means trust. Bookings. Referrals. Repeat clients.

And here’s the real truth: the FUPA is emotional for most women. Helping them feel confident in this area is a huge gift — and your business grows because of it.
